Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the establishment of the National Youth Council (NYC) for development of the youth of the country. The council which consists of 33 young professionals from diverse backgrounds are expected to play an active role in uplifting the youth of the country for their role in national development. The program Patron-in-Chief will be Prime Minister Imran Khan while chairman will be Mr. Usman Dar, Adviser to the PM on Youth Affairs. This program will economically empower the youth of Pakistan who were deprived of better livelihood and income opportunities in the past.
Other prominent figures from various fields, including education, sports, religion, economy and arts, would be NYC’s part. Maj Tanveer Shafi, a ghazi from Zarb-i-Azb military operation, cricketers Hassan Ali and Sana Mir, actors Hamza Ali Abassi, Muniba Mazari and Mahira Khan and Samina Baig, first and only Pakistani woman to climb Everest and the Seven Summits would be part of the program.
Ministers for Youth Affairs in all the provinces will also be NYC’s part. The government has been striving to bring changes to achieve empowerment of the youth.
The NYC shall act as a representative body of youth-led civil society, public and private sector body from across Pakistan. It will work to advance pro-youth development and empowerment agenda by advising on facilitating processes and mechanisms that include and integrate young people into policy making at all levels of Government.
