The Precision Medicine Lab, led by Dr Faisal Khan, under the National Centre of Big Data and Cloud Computing (NCBC) is funded by the HEC and hosted jointly by CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute in Hayatabad, Peshawar.

We are seeking to hire talented, self-driven individuals who have shown high levels of consistent achievement during their career and possess a genuine enthusiasm for science and innovation and ideally a deep passion for improving cancer patient outcomes. All applicants are expected to have strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) skills.

Team members are expected to exercise imagination, initiative and inventiveness in their work. The Lab expects high levels of integrity, energy and time management from all its members. Any study or experience abroad will be a plus.

[July 26, 2020] Communications Specialist 

We are looking for a digital-savvy science communicator who can share stories about our people and projects at PML, with the rest of the world. The experience can be taken as war reporting from our frontlines against cancer. The person should ideally be a graduate with at least 2 years of professional experience as a communications manager or digital content creator. Exceptional candidates who have not graduated yet may also apply. The ideal candidate will have a mix of the following skills:

  • Design (from good use of Canva, to pros using Illustrator, Photoshop or similar software)
  • Copy (from correct use of the English language, to very strong writing and blogging skills especially about science and technology)
  • Social (very savvy social media management skills including Twitter, Facebook pages and/or Instagram; decent photography or video-making skills will be bonus).

We understand an applicant might not have all of the above skills at the same time. That is the reason each of the three skillsets come with a range. We expect every applicant to show professional experience and great skills in at least one of the above, along with amateur user skills in at least one and ideally both of the remaining two skills.

A typical day at PML would have some of the following:

  • Meeting and interviewing team mates to learn more about their projects, resulting in content.
  • Brainstorming a new visual identity for an upcoming event or a new project.
  • Broadcasting an event or moderating a live panel discussion.

We have open positions for fresh graduates or 2nd year MS/MPhil students who want to pursue their projects at the Precision Medicine Lab. These are highly-competitive short-term full-time positions that come with a stipend. All members have access to their own workspace and shared laboratory resources, located at RMI in Hayatabad, Peshawar.

  • Data analysis of genomic, metagenomic, proteomic, trasncriptomic, epigenetic and interactomic datasets in cancers and infectious diseases.
  • Genomic analysis of cancers in local patients, including genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2.
  • Integrative analysis of multi-omic data using machine learning methods.
  • Biobanking of biological specimen at the PML Biorepository
  • Human cell culture including establishment of primary cell lines.
  • 2D and 3D cell culture-based cancer models

These are full-time contractual project positions that come with remuneration as per the HEC guidelines for the project. Successful candidates will be active members of the PML team and will work directly with the PI. All members have access to their own workspace and shared laboratory resources, located at RMI in Hayatabad, Peshawar.

Research Assistants normally undertake at least 1 independent project working under the PI, that ideally should lead into a publication or a prototype. RAs are also expected to be helping in group projects, mentoring students, being part of a lab committee, helping in a lab-keeping role or a combination of a few.

[July 26, 2020] Team Lead 

We have an open position for Project Team Lead, which comes with expectations of a mixed role of a project management lead and a pre-doctoral/post-doctoral associate. Ideal candidates would have earned a doctorate from a reputed institution or a Masters/MPhil nationally or internationally with at least 3 years of professional experience after that. The ideal candidate would either be a strong wet-lab person with the ability to independently design and undertake experiments in basic molecular biology along with either 1) human cell culture followed by functional assays or 2) genomics library prep and downstream data analysis, OR s/he would be a computational biologist with a solid foundation in statistics and probability and very strong programming skills. Prior experience of managing teams and/or projects will be a strong bonus.
