The Precision Medicine Lab, led by Dr Faisal Khan, under the National Centre of Big Data and Cloud Computing (NCBC) is funded by the HEC and hosted jointly by CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute in Hayatabad, Peshawar.

We are seeking to hire talented, self-driven individuals who have shown high levels of consistent achievement during their career and possess a genuine enthusiasm for science and innovation and ideally a deep passion for improving cancer patient outcomes. All applicants are expected to have strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) skills.

Team members are expected to exercise imagination, initiative and inventiveness in their work. The Lab expects high levels of integrity, energy and time management from all its members. Any study or experience abroad will be a plus.

We are recruiting of several Research Assistant II (minimum 1-2 years of experience) and Research Assistant I (no experience) positions for different projects at the Lab. These will include molecular biologists/biotechnologists, programmers, data scientists, fab-lab engineers, doctors and dentists and economists.

Data Scientists

Ideal Candidate

  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Data Science/Statistics/Software Engineering or relevant field
  • At least 1-2 years hands-on Python/R programming or AI research experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languages with a strong foundation in a statistical platform such as Python, R or MatLab.
  • Experience building ML/DL models in platforms such as Keras, TensorFlow, Pytorch, SciKit-Learn, Matplotlib or any Open-Source Platforms.

Mobile App Developer (Full Stack)

Ideal Candidate

  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Software Engineering or relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in mobile application development.
  • Have extensive Android and iOS development experience with a good sense of mobile app UI/UX.
  • Have strong knowledge of interfacing with server APIs via JSON and XML, web services, RESTful APIs.
  • Have strong database experience in MySQL/PostgreSQL/SQLite/MongoDB.
  • Have extensive Analytical and Debugging skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build advanced applications for the Android and iOS platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.

Ideal Candidate

  • Good knowledge in theory and practicals on micro controllers, microprocessors and sensors.

  • Understanding of Operating systems (Ubuntu/ Linux)
  • Debugging skills – Basic Electronics Debugs and Troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM modeling, AutoCAD.

  • BS or MS/MPhil in Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Genetics/Bioinforamtics and relevant disciplines with a background in molecular biology of the cell.
  • Ideally with strong research skills, ideally with thesis work in cell culture, genomics, molecular biology, etc.
  • Courses or thesis work in Cancer will be a plus.
  • Up to speed with the rapidly evolving field of biology and know-how of latest trends.
  • Strong writing skills will be a major plus.
  • Experience with patents, products and startups will be a bonus.

  • Picking up 1-2 or sub-projects and running them independently and/or as part of team. This includes literature reviews, experimental design, Wetlab or computational experiments, data analysis and manuscript writing.

Ideal Candidate

  • BS or MS/MPhil in Economics, Business Management or any relevant discipline.

Clinical Research Assistant

Ideal Candidate

  • Must a be graduate with an MBBS or a BDS degree from a recognized medical college (undergrad completed along with house job).
  • Fresh graduates as well as young specialists (completed Part I training) who are and interested in diving into the world of science and research and working as a part of an exceptional interdisciplinary team, are encouraged to apply.
  • Training or additional courses in pathology especially around cancer is a plus.
  • Ability to work and efficiently communicate with an interdisciplinary team of data scientists, biotechnologists and microbiologists.
  • Should be able to work in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and ideally Excel.
  • Medics with added skills in art, design and writing (academic or otherwise) are a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Help the PI and the team with a component of an ongoing clinical study or research project, especially with patient-facing areas.
  • Offer help with sample collection, when and where needed, for different studies.

  • Every member needs to be able to easily communicate with other members of the team who our outside their area of expertise – for example molecular biologists and data scientists.
  • RAs are required to present their individual projects (done at the Lab) at different conferences, symposiums and workshops, where required.

We are looking for Team Leads who can help our PI manage different teams and projects and at the same time pursue/contribute to a scientific research project as well. This means wearing both a project management and a postdoctoral associate hat.

The ideal candidates would hold a doctoral degree or have submitted their doctoral thesis. We are also open to considering stellar applicants with a Masters from a reputable university abroad. Candidates should be specializing in any of the areas the Lab is undertaking research in including the broader areas of molecular and cell biology, genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, data sciences, software development, wearables and digital health, cancer biology and oncology, drug development and clinical trials.

We are looking for a digital-savvy science communicator who can share stories about our people and projects at PML, with the rest of the world. The experience can be taken as war reporting from our frontlines against cancer. The person should ideally be a graduate with at least 2 years of professional experience as a communications manager or digital content creator. Exceptional candidates who have not graduated yet may also apply. The ideal candidate will have a mix of the following skills:

  • Design (from good use of Canva, to pros using Illustrator, Photoshop or similar software)
  • Copy (from correct use of the English language, to very strong writing and blogging skills especially about science and technology)
  • Social (very savvy social media management skills including Twitter, Facebook pages and/or Instagram; decent photography or video-making skills will be bonus).

[July 26, 2020] Team Lead 

We have an open position for Project Team Lead, which comes with expectations of a mixed role of a project management lead and a pre-doctoral/post-doctoral associate. Ideal candidates would have earned a doctorate from a reputed institution or a Masters/MPhil nationally or internationally with at least 3 years of professional experience after that. The ideal candidate would either be a strong wet-lab person with the ability to independently design and undertake experiments in basic molecular biology along with either 1) human cell culture followed by functional assays or 2) genomics library prep and downstream data analysis, OR s/he would be a computational biologist with a solid foundation in statistics and probability and very strong programming skills. Prior experience of managing teams and/or projects will be a strong bonus.
